Antique Apple Festival - Petty's Orchard 27th March

The annual Apple Tasting Festival is coming up at Petty's Orchard in Templestowe.

"Antique Apple-Tasting FestivalEvery year the Heritage Fruits Society holds the popular Antique Apple Tasting Festival at Petty’s Orchard on the last Sunday in March. Thousands of visitors flock to enjoy the musical entertainment, the orchard tours, the speakers, the fine foods and especially the heritage apples! Watch our website and newsletter for details of the next Festival, which will be held on 27th March, 2011."

Last year was low key and great fun. We got to taste 30-40 varieties of apples that you never see anywhere and had an informative tour of the orchard.
Hopefully this year will be even better as apparently they've got cropping trees (last year, conditions meant many trees bore little or no fruit but they still managed a great event).

Be warned, don't expect Big Day Out type organisation or facilities (or music!).
Last year (after Costas had plugged the festival in 2009) they were a bit overwhelmed by the response (3000+ people) and those who didn't get there early had to park a couple of miles away and walk in.
Apparently police were called in to direct traffic .... for an apple tasting festival, yep.
They may have taken note of this and sorted out more parking closer to the orchard.
Highly recommend checking it out.
