Food and the Urban Environment: save the date – 3rd April 2013, 2-4pm

The Heart Foundation and VicHealth have arranged for Dr Susan Parham, Head of Urbanism, Centre for Sustainable Communities, University of Hertfordshire to visit Melbourne following her presentation at the Planning Institute of Australia National Congress.

Dr Parham has a long-term background and international profile in planning, urbanism and urban design for low carbon place making, with particular expertise in food and sustainable city design – and she is currently directing two food-centred ‘retrofitting’ research projects in the UK.

Since the early 1990s, she has produced significant original research and publications on sustainable, low carbon cities – and her book Market Place: How the Rise of Food Quarters in London is Transforming Spaces and Changing Lives, is due out in early 2013 while a second book The Convivial City: Food, Urbanism and a Sustainable Future will be published later the same year.

Further details to follow, but please pencil in your diary now.
