Pear Tree House by geishaboy500 |
The kicker is that participants take home a high quality fruit tree for their garden at the end of the session. What a great way to get productive trees out into the community along with the knowledge to plant and maintain them.
There is a limit of 20 participants per workshop but there may be a few places left in the last two sessions for the year. See below for details (here's their flyer).
The venues were/are local community spaces all over the municipality, mainly primary schools and community houses and they are asked to adopt the trees planted as part of the demos into their food gardening programs.
The remaining dates & venues are:
- Saturday 20 August 2011
Banyule Primary School, Rosanna - hosted a walk-a-thon this year to raise money for a vegie patch for every class - Saturday 27 August 2011
Charles La Trobe College, Olympic Village Campus, Heidelberg West - an established garden being re-invigorated with the support of Cultivating Community
Cost: $15/$10 concession Bring some food to share for lunch
Bookings essential: Reply with the name, address and phone number of each participant.
RSVP: transitionbanyule@gmail.com or Penny 9459 4209
Thanks to Bulleen Art & Garden and Banyule City Council for their support of these community events.
( I know, I know, it's Banyule not Moreland but this is an admirable programme and something we should try to get organised in Moreland next Winter.)
